The new Prattline Low Tow features a hard-shell roof lift system operated by four corner-mounted electric actuators. This mechanism allows the caravan to transition from a compact travel height of 2109mm to a spacious 2820mm when set up for camping, providing ample headroom and living space.
Constructed with a galvanised chassis and vacuum-bonded frame using glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), the caravan boasts a one-piece roof and honeycomb floor, ensuring durability and structural integrity. In its prototype form, the single-axle Low Tow measures 6.9m in length and 2.3m in width, with a Tare weight of 2100kg and an ATM of 2600kg.
Designed for all-terrain travel, the Low Tow is equipped with an off-road ball coupling and independent coil suspension. It includes 80L fresh and 80L grey water tanks, a 600Ah lithium battery system with 600W rooftop solar panels, and a 2000W inverter, supporting extended off-grid adventures.
Exterior features comprise an external kitchen, an external shower, and a powered awning. Inside, the caravan offers a two-berth layout with a double bed, dinette, kitchenette, and combination shower/toilet. Appliances such as a rooftop air-conditioner, induction cooktop, compressor fridge, stereo, and TV enhance the comfort and convenience of the living space.
Mark Palmarini, formerly of Roma Caravans, has led the design and development of the new Prattline Low Tow. Speaking at the 2026 Geelong Outdoor Living Caravan Expo, Palmarini highlighted the importance of retaining the unique look of this Australian classic while integrating modern technology. He noted that the original Prattline's hydraulic pump system has been replaced with electric actuators featuring manual override, improving ease of use and reliability.
Palmarini also introduced a user-friendly entry door solution, replacing the original barn door with an integrated two-part slide-out door. This innovation allows access to the caravan's interior even when the roof is lowered, enhancing practicality and convenience.
Future plans for the Low Tow include increasing the interior height to approximately 2.0m and exploring alternative layout options, such as front café seating and twin single beds. A lighter touring version is also under consideration, along with wind tunnel testing to optimise aerodynamics.
While the 2026 Prattline Low Tow will be manufactured in China to maintain affordability, Palmarini emphasised that producing it locally would have significantly increased costs. The caravan was advertised with show special pricing of $78,000, offering a competitive option for those seeking a blend of retro charm and modern functionality.
In addition to the Low Tow, Prattline RV is offering a range of lightweight imported models, including 15ft and 18ft fibreglass UK-style touring caravans. These models provide further options for Australian travellers seeking versatile and affordable caravan solutions.
