In a message shared with staff and external contacts, Duhe stated that she had initially planned to resign but was then abruptly informed by the board chair, Keith Spence, that her services were no longer needed. Despite being asked to reconsider her resignation and stay, Duhe emphasised her dissatisfaction with the company culture and leadership under Gallagher, who has led the firm for nearly a decade.

Santos publicly stated that Duhe left to "pursue other interests." However, Duhe refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement and chose to speak out about her reasons for leaving. This openness sheds light on potential internal challenges within the company.

Following Duhe's departure, Lachlan Harris, Santos' deputy CFO, has been appointed as acting finance chief. Duhe, previously an executive at Shell and Woodside Energy, had been seen by analysts as a possible successor to Gallagher.

This executive turnover raises questions about corporate governance and leadership dynamics within Santos. It also highlights the importance of aligning leadership styles and company culture to ensure organisational stability and success.
