This transformational step is crucial for the thousands of mid-sized employers across NSW who will soon have the power to determine which CSP aligns with their business objectives. By providing a robust online platform stocked with comprehensive performance metrics and sector-specific insight into their service providers, icare aims to make the decision-making process both informed and straightforward.
Last week, a productive meeting took place involving NSW Minister for Workplace Health and Safety Sophie Cotsis, icare CEO Richard Harding, and representatives from Allianz, DXC Technology, EML, Gallagher Bassett, GIO, and QBE—all CSPs involved in the scheme. Minister Cotsis was optimistic about the new choices offered to businesses, especially the tailored support available for mental health-related claims, foreseeing an uptick in injured workers making quicker returns to the workplace.
According to icare's CEO, the delivery of comprehensive data to businesses will enhance competitive dynamics amongst the CSPs, leading to elevated service standards and more satisfactory claims experiences for employers and workers alike. This transparency, hailed as the first of its kind in Australia, will facilitate informed choices as businesses can review quarterly data from each provider to select their ideal candidate.
- Introduction of a multi-provider model for better service matching.
- Launch of an online platform offering CSP performance insights.
- Empowerment of mid-sized businesses with broader choices.
- Enhanced support for workplace psychological injury claims.
- A commitment to performance transparency and improved claims experience.
This initiative has its roots in the learnings from a past approach—back in 2017 when icare assigned EML as the sole insurance agent for all new claims—a move that later faced significant scrutiny and called for a review of the scheme. Following that review, the latest model was crafted and it sets a precedent by introducing significant choice and transparency, concluding with the confirmation of six CSPs in October 2022.
