FAR aims to enhance accountability within financial institutions by clearly defining the responsibilities of executives and directors. It mandates that these individuals take 'reasonable steps' to prevent and address issues within their organisations. This regulation presents an opportunity for insurers to critically evaluate and strengthen their internal processes and controls.

CPS230 focuses on operational resilience, emphasising the need for insurers to identify and manage risks associated with critical operations and material service providers. It requires active oversight and monitoring by the board to ensure that the organisation can withstand and recover from operational disruptions.

In addition to these regulations, insurers must prepare for the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS), which will mandate disclosures on climate-related plans, carbon emissions, and associated financial risks starting from January 2025. Aligning with global best practices, ASRS will necessitate significant investments in technology and expertise to meet reporting requirements.

For consultants working with insurance companies, understanding these regulatory changes is essential. Advising clients on compliance strategies, risk management frameworks, and sustainability initiatives will be critical in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.
